Trump enticed people to give him money by dangling the chance that one donor would get to have a meal with him. He did this multiple time since 2017. There is no evidence that any donor ever actually won.
It appears that Trump, the voice for the nation's forgotten people, has forgotten to fulfill these promises he made to those forgotten people.
There's something especially mendacious about a guy who brags about being a multi-billionaire, whose family appears to be profiting wildly off being President, using a bogus raffle to entice his middle and working class supporters to chip in some money for his campaign.
I'm not a lawyer, but it strikes me that the Trump campaign has likely broken federal election laws and perhaps other state-level laws as well here. All of the money raised by these raffles would be considered legally fraudulent, no?
Thought experiment: Imagine if the Washington Examiner uncovered that a Democratic candidate had done what Trump appears to have done here. You better believe Trump would be tweeting about it and calling for a Justice Department inquiry into the lying, fraudulent Democrats.
But here's the difference. Most of Trump's supporters probably don't care if they've been ripped off. "He's a busy guy, he probably just forgot." "All politicians are liars, everyone knows that. I just like that he's fighting for me." etc etc.
