Just noticed that Facebook marked the "Republicans for the Green New Deal" video as false, yet did not do the same for this video of President Trump in which he falsely claims that @staceyabrams is working to extend the vote to undocumented people. Nicely done, @facebook.
@staceyabrams @facebook I'm fine with Facebook identifying certain political posts as "false information," but they should be even handed about how they do it. If you're not going to flag Trump's videos as containing intentional lies, then why do it to others?
@staceyabrams @facebook Facebook has taken in over $21 million from this one Trump facebook page alone. I know their defense is that they allow candidates to lie but will fact check PACs, but that just seems idiotic to me.
@staceyabrams @facebook Trump's facebook page, on which he regularly lies, is followed by 25 million people, people who are customers of Facebook. So Facebook would rather incentivize politicians to lie to their customers, then serve their customers by flagging false information?
@staceyabrams @facebook Here's a pro-Trump PAC that shared a story from a site FB identifies as a "far-right fringe" outlet "known for promoting false stories" if you click through on the little "i" on the bottom right. Judging by the comments, not many users actually took the time to do that.
@staceyabrams @facebook I feel obliged to point out that I lied in my own FB post about "Republicans for the Green New Deal." I assumed most if not all of my FB friends knew I was joshing, but just in case I immediately added this comment. Unlike Facebook, I think truthfulness matters.
@staceyabrams @facebook Here's another pro-Trump PAC that posted a video of a Trump rally at which he said dozens of false things, as documented by @ddale8. I know this is just a post and not a paid-for ad, but still...here's a political PAC posting untrue political information, and FB does zero.
@staceyabrams @facebook @ddale8 Interesting to note that this "Committee to Defend the President" PAC is repurposed from an anti-Hillary page created in 2013.
@staceyabrams @facebook @ddale8 That Committee to Defend the President page is followed by almost 900,000 FB users. That's some serious reach for a page that is entirely pro-Trump propaganda.
@staceyabrams @facebook @ddale8 Just so we're clear. FB goes out of its way to mark as false a video ad purchased by a page with less than 1000 followers. Meanwhile they allow the President's page, with 25 million followers, to post false statements by him without any comment.
@staceyabrams @facebook @ddale8 The Online Lefty League spent a whopping $5000 on FB ads since its inception. Certainly the gap between that and the over $21 million Trump has paid FB has nothing to do with FB's policies around marking some posts as false and leaving others alone.
