Today marks five years since we’ve been a family of five. Now, all of our family photos don’t look like this one — taken long, long before we had any clue my mom would be gone so soon. Now, they have only four people in them (1/4) 
The thing is, though — in some ways, that’s actually not true. In many ways, there are still five.
See, I don’t even mean that in some kind of spiritual, supernatural “She’s always watching!” sense. I’ve never been able to make myself believe that. Believe me, I’ve tried (2/4)

But what I do know is, whenever you’re looking at the four of us, you’re also looking at something that could not have been without her. You’re looking at people she created, people she shaped, and people who still would not be who they are now without her (3/4)
She is not here physically, and she never will be again. That sucks, and it always will. But her presence can never fully leave me, our family, or any of us who knew her well — because she will always be a part of who we are.
