In honor of @jpaulreed's teachings, I'm going to conduct a full Root Cause Analysis, and follow it up with Five Whys.
@jpaulreed My newsletter generation system is byzantine and bizarre.
@jpaulreed The Root Cause lies in a subsystem represented by the second API Gateway. It takes a parameter, but without one was erroring rather than using the current issue number.
So autocomplete trips me up. It uses a previous issue by default.
Until yesterday, I had to specify an endpoint. Combined with a caching issue, this resulted in the wrong HTML being sent out.
5 Whys:
Why did this happen? I forgot to specify a bare endpoint
Why didn't tests catch this?No tests
Why are there no tests? I'm bad at programming
Why am I bad at programming? Not hugged enough as a child
Why wasn't I hugged enough? I'm a disappointment to my parents

It's time once again for me to tweet thread about multi-cloud. Here we go...
Multi-cloud for individual workloads is a terrible best practice. Designing for it is generally accepting a drag on feature velocity in favor of buying optionality you likely won't exercise. Pick one cloud (I care not which) and go all in.
That's the platonic ideal.

Here in reality, multi-cloud is a thing. Acquisitions, workloads being better suited to other providers, line-of-business boundaries. It's okay.

BREAKING: @awscloud has taken pity on us, apparently--they've released Savings Plans, which sounds like something that has to do with retirement. Fortunately it does--specifically sunsetting Reserved Instances. A thread:

I've had an opportunity to do a bit of thinking and reassessing recently.

My value system continues to simplify. I think that's a sign of the times, a gradual refocusing as the game board becomes increasingly black and white. Or maybe red and blue. Let me pull out a few axioms.
Firstly, after decades of denials, UFOs are real news.google.com/search?q=penta… nobody's really adapting to this, but seriously (and mark this date for later on) WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON? Clearly there's been a shift in policy in the Deep State.

You may have Trump to thank for this.
Now UFOs being real, this is not a small change in the American Way of Being - bigfoot's always out there kinda-sorta, but if the US National Parks Service starts putting them on maps and asking for fur samples if you see anything on the trail, you better believe Kansas is gone.

It is 2019 and we can move past using the 5 whys. You are not going to get any singular "root cause" from any sufficiently complex system. Outages have contributing factors and proximate triggers but never a root cause. #LeadDevNewYork

Interaction Resiliency (iXR) is the practice of Software QA (aka #testing) as applied to "devops" or more properly Safety-II software delivery (aka continuous delivery & continuous deployment).
I put a name to "testing in devops" or "agile testing in continuous delivery" because a) those phrases are clumsy 😀 and b) the current discourse in #testing constantly collapses back on itself as big-A Agile + CDT are conflated time-and-time-again with Safety-II + Kaizen #iXR
