Another international money laundering case comes to the Southern District today with a hearing in the #PanamaPapers prosecution tied to firm Mossack Fonseca.
More on those developments soon, @CourthouseNews.
Mossack Fonseca attorney Ramses Owens, the lead defendant, wasn't in court because he claims Panamanian authorities won't let him travel.
Per Judge Berman: "The Issue of whether Mr. Owens is a fugitive is one on the table."
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Rehn countered that Owens' team hasn't met with them to push a solution.
Prosecutors revealed there may be a superseding indictment in the coming weeks with an additional aggravated identity theft count for Richard Gaffey, a U.S. accountant charged.
Trial date in the #PanamaPapers case is set for Jan. 13.
