And yes, yes, I've heard the Drive-By Truckers song about Lynyrd Synyrd and I know it's complicated...but still, those are the G-D lyrics of the song and they're pretty straight forward.
I mean, here's a 1977 performance of the song in front of what appears to be an almost all-white crowd in Oakland, with a Confederate flag in the background. I mean, come on now.
In 1980, 38% of the people who lived in Oakland were white. This is a stadium filled with an almost entirely white crowd, with a big Confederate flag, singing along to Sweet Home Alabama. You can't tell me these folks had no idea what they were doing.
