I'm legit worried about Virginia Democrats (elected and activists) making the #ERA the goal post and not the starting line. We have both majorities and all statewide offices. This can't be the biggest ask, y'all.
Another "starting line" policy change I expect from VA Dem Majority with a big impact - eliminating the work requirements born from #MedicaidExpansion compromise. Air time on this topic is basically nonexistent.
Virginia is literally last. Dead last. Can not be lower on the list when it comes to workers' rights. So if we want to set some bold goals that are only possible with a Dem Majority let's focus on workers' rights. For example:
🗣🗣 REPEAL RIGHT TO WORK

Organized workers have won some of the most historic civil rights protections for all of us. Virginia teachers, firefighters, care workers - every worker deserves the right to organize.
ELIMINATE EXCLUSIONS IN LABOR LAW

Many labor protections like overtime pay, workers comp, and minimum wages don't apply to all workers. Whether you work in a factory, on a field or in a home, you deserve to be safe and paid fairly. Dems should deliver on this.
RAISE THE WAGE - before my grandchildren are working!

We have been locked into a minimum wage that amounts to poverty wages for decades. If we raise it to $15/hr gradually over the next 10yrs ... we're still losing. I know we have some Dem economists - let's get this right.
IMPROVE WORKPLACE HARASSMENT & DISCRIMINATION LAWS

(Shot) LGBTQ people shouldn't be fired for their identity
(Chaser) You should have stronger legal remedy if you face discrimination or sexual harassment. We've seen repeatedly that our systems fail women & queer people.
This list could go on for a while since again ... we are last for workers' rights!!

Democrats are the party of, for and by working people, so let's focus on these policies and others that will help us make sure every job is a good job with dignity.
THE ASK:

I'm an organizer y'all so the thread had to end with a specific call to action. This session I'm leading @CareInActionUSA's work in VA to move the dial on these important issues and others. Join our bold, progressive movement: actionnetwork.org/forms/join-the…
