SWHT is an independent charitable trust
Began accepting archives in digital form at SWHT in early 1990s. Survey of carrier media in 2013, survey of digital & a/v in 2017 #DigiWithIt
A lot of formats pose problems but now they have a system they are tackling the easy ones first #DigiWithIt
#digipres takes time. First digital formats received in 1990s but not until early 2010s began researching best practice. In 2015 developed ad-hoc system using OS software #DigiWithIt
Ad-hoc system included stand alone station, droid, ftk imager to virus scan & generate check sums for new accessions. Very time consuming though (esp 30 day quarantine period) #DigiWithIt
2 things enabled the development of their new #digipres system. 1). Independence from county council & 2). New burdens funding #DigiWithIt
In 2017, disentangled themselves from council IT system. Once had own IT network and IT person, it opened up a world of possibilities! #DigiWithIt
First thing they did was ditch CALM and get Epexio. They then looked at #digipres systems (4 in total) & garnered help & advice from others #DigiWithIt
Their system is Archivematica & Epexio provided by Metadatis. Eventual aim will be to get all archivists across SWHT up to speed with the systems & #digipres so it’s in everyone’s jobs to do digital not just one persons #DigiWithIt
Policies had to be revised to reflect new systems and ways of working #DigiWithIt

A really great feature of Describe, their back end catalogue, is you can set access permissions for DIP’s to gradate access (to staff, Reading room, everyone). This is important when they begin to ingest more sensitive records that might be subject to data protection #DigiWithIt
They’ve had a great experience with Metadatis & Arkivum in terms of their flexibility of approach to allow SWHT to get a system and process that really works for them #DigiWithIt
On reflection: the project has taken longer than they anticipated #DigiWithIt
