🚨 Met Police say they are looking into two allegations of “electoral fraud and malpractice" regarding offers from the Conservatives to Brexit Party candidates to incentivise them to stand down 🚨

Several Brexit Party figures claim they were offered inducements. Tories deny.
Yesterday the PM categorically denied the allegations in an interview with @Peston
Full statement from Met Police. The allegations are being “assessed”, which means this is still at an early stage and they won’t necessarily be taken any further.
NEW: Understand neither of the allegations were passed to the Met by the Brexit Party itself - Nigel Farage is still compiling his dossier.

But they continue to claim that an unnamed mid to high ranking Downing St official has been involved in dissuading BP candidates to stand.

NEW: Serious unrest in Canterbury Lib Dems over national party’s decision to find a candidate to replace @ThatTimWalker, who stood down to give @RosieDuffield1 a chance to unite the Remain vote and beat the Conservatives. 1/
A senior Lib Dem source in the local party tells me members had a vote amongst themselves, deciding not to field a candidate, but this was overruled by HQ. So @ThatTimWalker was selected, subsequently receiving “animosity and vitriol” from local members. 2/
Deadline to select a new candidate is Thursday. There are four local Lib Dems who are approved candidates but not a single one is willing to stand. So the national party would have to impose a candidate on Canterbury from outside. I’m told “they wouldn’t get a warm welcome”. 3/

BREAKING: I understand Labour has dropped its candidate in the key seat of Bassetlaw. Sally Gimson has been accused of “inappropriate behaviour in a Labour Party meeting”. She was selected just a week ago. Huge anger among her supporters.
The accusation is that Sally Gimson has been forced out to make way for a left wing candidate. Labour Party HQ yet to respond.
Labour source: “You get dropped for being rowdy in meetings, but not for being a racist it seems.”

BREAKING: I understand @KateOsamor has become the latest Labour MP to be triggered by her local party. Now faces a reselection battle in Edmonton. Not clear yet what the issue was - she has been a loyal supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, having served in his shadow cabinet.
@KateOsamor Labour source says "Momentum/leadership have totally destroyed the selection rules and can't even protect their own people."
@KateOsamor Digging further, @KateOsamor's local party is a complex mix of rivalries, with ethnic divisions. Labour source suggests that with trigger threshold set at 1/3 of branches, it's easy for one faction to bring a candidate down and "the main victims are BAME and female candidates".

The Met says it's assessing "two allegations of electoral fraud and malpractice".

No specifics from the police but the complaints relate to allegations the Tories offered jobs to Brexit Party candidates to get them to stand aside.

Ministers and the PM have denied this.
Earlier Michael Gove said he is "completely unaware" of any such conversations between the Tories and the Brexit Party as they are "not interested in pacts or deals" and are standing in "every seat" across the UK.
Labour's Andrew Gwynne calls for a "full investigation" into "serious allegations":

“For Michael Gove to fail to deny that the government has used jobs and peerages to pressure candidates from another party to not stand in an election is shocking".

Nobody talks about UKIP these days. That's because electorally they're irrelevant. But in very tight marginals, their otherwise risible vote share might make the difference, assuming they run candidates. So might we see the Tories do a pact with them too?
"Smartest" would be to gift them 1 MP in a very safe leave seat (agree it with the Brexit Party too) and in exchange they stand down all over the rest of the UK. 1 MP would be infinitely better than 0 from their POV. It shows they're still a "real" party and gets them on TV.
(To be clear, by "gift" I mean neither the Tories nor the BP would stand candidates in that one area.)

I have no idea if the Tories are thinking along these lines, or indeed thinking of UKIP at all. But given all their other tricks, you have to expect the unexpected.

Labour - 37.8%
Conservatives - 23%
Brexit Party - 10.3%
Lib Dems - 8.1%
UKIP - 7.5%
Change UK/Independent Group - 4.1%
SNP - 4.1%
Greens - 4%
Very fragmented - an interesting exercise is to group the smaller parties by their position on #Brexit. That gives you:

- Labour 37.8%
- Conservatives 23%
- Hard Remain parties 20.3% (LDs + ChUK + SNP + Greens)
- Hard Leave parties 17.8% (Brexit Party + UKIP)
And an interesting side note on new parties: the Brexit Party are more appealing to Leave voters (48%) than Change UK/TIG are with Remain voters (33%). But Change UK appeal more to Leave voters (23%), than the Brexit Party do to Remain voters (18%) 👇
