1. When Trump made his first visit to East Asia I was very concerned that President Moon had served Trump some traditional Korean food.
I thought that Abe had played it exactly right— golf, overcooked hamburger, and fries.

2. But in the end, they’re both democratically elected leaders and part of a system of states with shared values including respect for the rule of law (domestically and internationally). And that’s too much for Trump to bear.
3. He’d prefer to insult our allies, weaken our alliances, and strengthen the leaders he admires— Putin, KJU, and even Xi.
4/4. This isn’t new. It’s barely news any more; and it isn’t some great insight on my part.
But it still sucks.

(And it’s ok to negotiate for more $... but 400% isn’t a starting point, it’s a slap in the face.)
