Have not read full French paper on enlargement, but from some detailed summaries it does not look like a paper on enlargement at all. More like a new association model with concentric circles. @dmarusic

Two important notes in the documents about Xinjiang leaked today
First, there has been a lot of discussion what the main rationale for the new policy is. (1) counter terrorism and counter insurgency (2) anti-Islamic (3) economic (industrialization of Xinjiang with a new docile labor force)
Documents show the focus is exclusively on (1). I am surprised not to see (3) and will need to read original documents to check if reporters missed it...

Well yah if you’re going to build a grand alliance with Russia those 4 are out. Again, this is not what I call “vulgar Islamophobia” in my text. It’s not anti-Muslim feeling. Rather, civilizational geopolitics
It’s about the affirmation of separate civilizations. Not sure why people want to interpret it as vulgar Islamophobia. I certainly never argued that and was very clear in my text

As I explained yesterday of course Macron did not read this far right author. Which makes it extraordinary that his interview and this essay are so similar. There is a logic and a mood in France that seems to lead him in dangerous directions
The two texts agree on at least this. 1. Russia is not the enemy. 2. The enemy is radical Islam. 3. Radical islam is a way of life that includes peaceful methods. 4. It is insidiously invading the West 5. Russia has problems with Islam too, but not with the West.
6. We should build a partnership with Russia and if America stops us from doing that we should move away from America. 7. We have made errors in the Balkans by being too open. 8. We cannot be tolerant of intolerance

The data we have (from @VividSeats) is truly incredible. In every county, we have a record of the share of concert/etc ticket sales that fall into each genre in 2015/19. Here's that map (with each county scaled for population). Cities like rap/hip hop. Rural areas like country.
The music genre that most correlates with Republican vote share is, as you might expect, country music. A preference for "New Age" music (whatever that is) and Rock are also "red". Rap, Hip Hop & R&B, as mentioned, are "blue" music—as is liking alternative artists or Latin music.

In the report createlondon.org/wp-content/upl… @OrianBrook @markrt & I look at a variety of data to think about why the cultural sector in the UK is so exclusive. We focus on class, with some intersections of gender and ethnicity, but obviously thats not every form of inequality!
First off we show many cultural occupations are marked by significant inequalities of class, gender & ethnicity, pay gaps based on gender and class, and regional inequalities with London as a major problem for inequality in the sector
