This album legitimately changed my entire conception of popular music
I mean I really liked all of Kanye's previous stuff too but when this came out, it was singularly mindblowing in a way that I have a hard time imagining ever being replicated
There are a couple other albums I could name which had a similar effect, but I think it's also a function of age. Once you're out of your early 20s, it almost seems impossible for music to have that kind of indelible impact anymore

I would remind people that the 2018 midterm elections had the highest voter turnout for any midterm election since 1912 -- a strong portent that we have no real idea what the upcoming primary electorate will look like and you should ignore conventional wisdom
Turnout for the 2016 Democratic primaries was also relatively *low* and that will almost certainly change radically in 2020, further altering the composition of the electorate in ways we do not currently comprehend
Obviously there will be no competitive GOP primary which means the Dem electorate has potential for even further growth, with many more independents and GOP voting (in states where permitted) than in 2016 or 2008

After years of this manufactured alarmist narrative there has never been any evidence that Corbyn harbors "anti-semitic" views, in fact he has vociferously denounced such views over and over again throughout his entire life. It's a propagandistic lie
The idea that this "Chief Rabbi" automatically deserves reverence and/or a presumption of divine authority, and could not instead be operating as a political actor, is a total joke: especially in a nominally secular society. The exaltation of him is transparently bad faith
If the real "fear" is that Corbyn won't be a reflexive defender of everything Israel does, just state that and have a debate. But conflating it with "anti-semitism" and the idea that his premiership would put UK Jews in physical danger is disgusting

If successful Mike Bloomberg will have effectively abolished the early state primary calendar, and negated the roles of Iowa, NH, NV, SC. He is testing the proposition that you can do the opposite of retail politics and win, if you have enough billions.
Trump also eschewed many of the formalities of early-state politicking. But he still devoted major resources to those states and campaigned in them extensively. Bloomberg thinks he can run a national operation from his Manhattan HQ and just ignore them.
In order for Bloomberg's strategy to be successful, it would be optimal for there to be no clear "front-runner" after the first four contests. So don't put it past him to use the massive "data analytics" tools at his disposal to engineer that (chaotic) outcome.

Been thinking about the approaching end of decade and what albums I have actually, really, deeply engaged with over the last ten years. Albums that i've sat with for various periods of time, that I still reach for when I feel a certain mood. 1/many
Albums feel particularly interesting this decade because they have become commercially irrelevant yet remain aesthetically powerful. The only other long format that really does it for me is mixes and their place has also changed this decade. 2/many
There's probably more mixes than ever but I've found that flood intimidating, very much like a more is less thing. Everyone and their mom has a radio show or mix round up. But the mixes I've always stuck with are more like albums in a way, with a narrative arc. 3/many
