Dark ads, flawed & gamed algorithms, violent rhetoric, and signaling from the federal government (George Soros conspiracy bullshit, “1,488 children” and 14-word press releases starting with, “We must secure...”) showing exactly who is in the in-group — and the out-group.
You think any of this is new? I’ve studied this shit for years. It may be a dry read as history, but living through it feels just like this.
Some people just need permission to act on their most hideous impulses. That’s the true danger of disinformation, I think. It galvanizes people who always felt this way into action. It propels them. One might even call them triggered.
