I wanted to take a moment to discuss the hilarious trap the White House is currently falling into in regards to impeachment.

The news came out yesterday that “the White House supports a full Senate trial if the House impeaches.” 1/7
There are a couple things to remember about a Senate trial.

One, the Senators can’t talk — they’re the jury.

That means we get no rambling, partisan monologues from Congresscritters. 2/7
Trump’s defense will be entirely based his own witnesses and defenders, and predicated entirely on the merits of the case.

He *has* no defense when it comes to the merits of the case, and we’ve seen how bad his witnesses and attorneys are at actually defending him. 3/7
If you watched the hearings this week, you saw a GOP almost completely reluctant to defend Trump’s behavior. Instead, they whattaboutism’d the Democrats and Hunter Biden.

That’s not going to work in an actual court setting. 4/7
I’ve long said that I doubt we ever see a Senate trial. Mostly because a public trial in the Senate is about the worst thing that could possibly happen to this President. 5/7
You saw how bad Goldman destroyed Castor this week. Imagine that for two full weeks without any shiny partisan distractions thrown in to muddle the waters. 6/7
McConnell has already made it clear to Trump that the GOP doesn’t have the votes to dismiss the trial outright.

McConnell also knows if it gets there, it’s going to be ugly.

That’s why I still think Trump will resign. <FIN>
