It's really unbelievable what favorable press Josh Hawley gets as a "populist" maverick who is "rethinking old positions and revisiting old orthodoxies." Which ones? He supported the Trump/GOP tax cuts, fought to decimate the ACA, endorses Trump in 2020./1
How is he "laying out the future of the Republican Party"? Is it because not only does he quote "the philosopher Edmund Burke and the Christian monk Pelagius" but that he does so "casually"? /2
Hasn't Ben Sasse claimed the lane of heartland philosopher who supports the Trump agenda 100% but get goods press because he does so with a big vocabulary and writes books? /3

More both-sidesism from ⁦@washingtonpost⁩. The example on the Democrat side was that Zoe Lofgren brought up Stormy Daniels. She did so in response to a GOP member who said that Clinton’s impeachment was justified because he lied about an affair./1 washingtonpost.com/politics/name-…
Moreover, @eliseviebeck @rachaelmbade and @ColbyItkowitz write that “Trump has denied a relationship” with Daniels, not bothering to note his hush money payment to her, which landed his lawyer, Michael Cohen, in jail and which was very likely a campaign finance law violation. /2
The rest of the article documents “name-calling” and “insults” only from the GOP. So this is a wildly misleading headline, and not just misleading but damaging to democracy in that it promotes a false narrative of cynicism about “Washington” or “politics” in general./3

First, Haley doesn't face up to the history of how the Confederate battle flag wound up on the South Carolina Statehouse grounds in 1962. As SC native @Eugene_Robinson has noted, "it was a symbol of massive resistance to racial desegregation. Period."/2

Trump pretended during the 2016 campaign to be a friend of labor by saying he’d bring coal mining and factory labor-coded as white and male-back. This was obvious bs at the time and his plutocratic agenda since shows he was never serious about supporting the labor movement./2
The reality is that today’s working class is multiracial & as much if not more female than male. Moreoever, there are roughly 50k coal miners and 95k Whole Food employees and 2 million WalMart workers. Among our most militant workers are nurses, flight attendants, and teachers./3

1. If the impeachment inquiry is being done inappropriately, why hasn't anyone cited the law or regulation that is being violated?
2. If we're just talking about precedent, is it weird to suddenly pick this one to be concerned with after a decade of smashing them? Should we ask Merrick Garland about it?
3. When during the preliminary investigations that led to Bill Clinton's impeachment was he given the opportunity to defend himself under due process?
