That Uplifting Tweet You Just Shared? A Russian Troll Sent It. Or maybe British Trolls
Accounts thought to be operated by the successors to Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA) deploy Trojan horses to gain fllwrs in a larger plan by a foreign adversary rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
Professional trolls are good at their job, harnessing our # tags and biases to get engagement and use them to drive wedges of distrust.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
3/. Melanie used an innocuous looking tweet to gain responses that in turn generated comments reflecting disgust.

Disgust is a more powerful tool than anger. The latter drives people to the polls. The former drives countries apart.

As Brexit is trying to do.
4/. Having harnessed goodwill they then use it to attack moderate politicians as a means of bolstering more polarising candidates.

Does that sound familiar? It sure as hell does to me.

Cut off the oxgyen. Maximise and amplify moderation as an antidote to division.
5/. Russia’s aims (I doubt they are limited to the USA) is to decrease faith and trust in our institutions that are needed to maintain a strong democracy.

Our Civil Service.

Our courts

The best of our MPs and MEPs.

Drive Amplification of one vote, suppression of the other
It doesn’t just stop with an election or a referendum.

Yes. We have noticed.

The troll encourages us to vilify our neighbours and amplify our differences, as compromise is essential for a democracy. Without it breaks.

This is what Brexit has done and we amplify.
