The march from Tsim Sha Tsui to Coliseum begins. Theme of this protest is 毋忘初心, despite pro-democracy candidates winning majority of district council seats, #HongKong people continue to take to the streets in huge number as their demands remain unmet.
A stark contrast in atmosphere outside the newly reopened Museum of Art, where people are dancing to music at an outdoor concert (which, surprisingly, isn’t cancelled...?)
Okay. The procession is moving along Avenue of Stars, but apparently this is not the approved route. So people are heading back to Salisbury Road.
This is how you know you’re along the official route. Scores of riot police are stationed along the way and now retreating amid the angry shouts. There is still traffic on Salisbury Road, so the procession is moving slow.
All lanes on Salisbury Road occupied. Scattered groups of riot police are stationed on corners of the streets among the protesters, drawing loud boos and heckling from the crowd. It seems a lot of wo-lei-fei have returned, including two 79-yr-old who said they are “regulars”.
Photo opportunities at today’s march include this tiny figurine of V, placed atop a bus station and holding signs supporting #HongKongProtests.
A lot of families in the protest tdy. This couple goes to every protest they can and brought along their 4 yr old son and 9 month-old baby tdy. They watch livestream at home, so his son, who used to look up to police, no longer does. He saw protesters smashing up traffic lights..
and he does the same with his toys. “We try to explain to him that’s wrong,” says the mother.
Besides tons of middle fingers and taunts, life bread is also offered to the police.
This family hasn’t taken to the streets since protests escalated in June, but noting how things seem to have quiet down since election, they are back out again. They brought along their two yr old so he can experience what’s happening and knows what it means to be a citizen.
Despite there being kids, babies and elderly among the crowd, police have just fired teargas onto Salisbury Road. Unsure what provoked it, but things seem calm and peaceful when the weapon was used.
Right before teargas was fired at a peaceful rally, the father was telling me how they gave up plans for a second child, worried that exposure to teargas and dioxin could lead to feral abnormality, and unsure what kind of world the child will be born into.
Chants of “walk faster” as protesters flee in different directions, some continue along Salisbury Road towards Hung Hom and Whampoa, while others head to TST East.
“I love Hong Kong people💓”
With news of riot police stationed in Hung Hom and To Kwa Wan, protesters are climbing over a border to cross to another bridge.
This is like some sort of team building activity. One man let others use his knees leverage to climb over, while some sit atop, pulling others up. A bunch of protesters stand on the other side, holding bags and catching people when they land.
More than two dozen police vehicles, including cruisers and unmarked cars, at the end of Princess Margaret Road Link. They are the reason why protesters have escaped over the border to another bridge. Now the cars are heading West.
Graffiti with really nice handwriting along the TST East promenade. “They cover up the words like how they cover up their crime.” “Truth is my weapon, conscience is my shield.”
Some graffiti with style
Organiser Swing says 380,000 joined today’s march. He has no party affiliations and is only a netizen on LIHKG. “I want to remind everyone that as long as you are a Hong Kong citizen with a HKID, you can apply for a notice of no objection and organise a rally.”
He received a call from police at around four, telling him the notice is revoked. The rally is organised within only five days. He is glad that so many have responded to his call for a rally, even though he’s only an ordinary netizen.
