The state has not one, but TWO Senate seats in play: one contested and one by retirement. Per a Republican friend, Kemp wanted to pick a woman to help shore up the numbers with suburban women, since women including @teresatomlinson are running in 2020. Trump wants a loyalist.🍿
And Trump's enforcers, like Gaetz, are now attempting to "educate" the governor who perhaps didn't realize that he, like every other elected Republican, now has one boss: Donald Trump, and he is expected to obey Trump at all times, or face his wrath at re-elect time.🍿🍿
But there's no guarantee Trump will still be president at re-elect time in 2022, and Kemp no longer directly controls the voter registration machinery he used to engineer his election in 2018. And Stacey Abrams could well run again, so he needs to do actual state politics. 🍿🍿🍿
