This happens at every NATO summit with Trump. Every G7. Every G20. The US President is mocked by US allies behind his back.

NATO’s military capabilities today are stronger than they’ve ever been.

But politically the NATO alliance has never been weaker.

The US is not in decline (tech, energy & food sector, demographics, strength of the dollar, etc)

But US influence globally is declining...and increasingly rapidly. Trump is making it worse. Impossible to imagine a video like this with any other US President, Dem or GOP.

Many Trump supporters don’t care a whit if foreign leaders make fun of the President, as seen in responses here.

But Trump himself cares immensely.

Prime Minister Trudeau was also pretty candid with me about Trump when I interviewed him earlier this fall. Here’s his response to reports that Trump might be looking to invite President Putin to next year’s G7 summit.

Behind Trump’s back, US allies regularly mock him. I’ve seen it happen after nearly every summit.

But in their private one-on-ones with the President, they’re extremely deferential. Very much like the Trump-Zelensky call.

That’s part of the problem.
