From the Trump administration's family-separation policy and poor conditions in detention centers to new rules targeting undocumented immigrations and asylum-seekers, we've been investigating the implementation and impact of these policies:

THREAD:
The Trump administration's family separation policy led to the detention of thousands of migrant children. Even though the policy has reportedly ended, children are still being detained. We're investigating the implementation from the top down: americanoversight.org/investigation/…
We obtained hundreds of photos from inside detention centers for unaccompanied migrant children. The images show children's artwork, handwritten complaint forms, and signs explaining how to report abuse: americanoversight.org/photos-from-in…
After DHS, ICE, and CBP failed to release records, we filed a lawsuit to shed light on conditions in detention centers following reports of abuse, lack of adequate health care, and deaths: americanoversight.org/document/compl…
Following the deaths of migrant children last year, we filed a lawsuit to shed light on deaths in U.S. custody, as well as for records of mistreatment and communications regarding detainee deaths. We're still waiting for answers: americanoversight.org/lawsuit-seeks-…
CBP is reportedly not providing flu vaccines to migrant families in detention centers — despite the flu-related deaths of at least three detained children in recent years. We filed FOIAs to learn more about efforts to prevent the spread of disease: americanoversight.org/documents?fwp_…
Those are just our investigations into conditions in detention centers. The Trump administration also launched the so-called Migrant Protection Protocols, which force asylum-seekers to remain in dangerous conditions in Mexico — where they often face violence.
We've been investigating the creation and implementation of the policy, as well as seeking records provided to asylum-seekers regarding options for obtaining legal representation while waiting in Mexico: americanoversight.org/document/foia-…
The Trump administration isn't just making life difficult for asylum-seekers trying to enter the U.S. In August, the administration rolled out a rule that would allow the government to deny green cards to immigrants deemed likely to use public assistance: washingtonpost.com/immigration/tr…
White House adviser and anti-immigrant hardliner Stephen Miller has worked behind the scenes to develop and push for many of these harsh policies. See our full investigation into his influence: americanoversight.org/investigation/…
