X : What is the IP on mapping?
Me : Creative commons.
X : What about strategic play?
Me : Creative commons. Think of what you're saying.
X : I don't understand.
Me : Mapping is a bit like "seeing the chessboard". You're asking me who owns the IP on "moving a pawn?"
... for this reason, it's all creative commons share alike. Real value is in better chess players not in some daft lawyer pretending they own a move.
I can guarantee you that anyone trying to claim IP over some map or some mapping move is a person who is crap at the game. You should never hire them or their firm. Boot them out. I would.
If they were any good, they could happily survive on their ability to play any game.
