The DoJ inspector general has found that a dossier of research compiled by British ex-spy Christopher Steele into Donald Trump’s dealings in Russia during the 2016 election “did not lead” to the opening of the FBI probe into the Trump campaign, aka 🍊 Russia investigation
To go back in time, it was the late US Republican Sen for Arizona, John McCain, who passed documents to then FBI director, Comey, in January 2017 alleging secret contacts between the 🍊campaign and 🇷🇺 and that 🇷🇺 intelligence had personally compromising material on 🍊 himself.
Trump was president-elect at the time, about to be inaugurated At the time, BuzzFeed published the documents, which it said were “unverified and potentially unverifiable”.
A spokesman for Russian president Vladimir Putin at the time denied Russia had collected compromising information on Trump and dismissed news reports as a “complete fabrication and utter nonsense”.
One report, dated June 2016, claims that the Kremlin has been cultivating, supporting and assisting Trump for at least five years, with the aim of encouraging “splits and divisions in western alliance”.
The material claimed that Trump had declined “various sweetener real estate deals offered him in Russia” and, most explosively, the report alleged: “FSB [today’s equivalent of the 🇷🇺KGB] has compromised 🍊through his activities in 🇷🇺 sufficiently to be able to blackmail him.”
