🧠⚡️Why you Procrastinate and How you can Eliminate Procrastination from your Life 🧠⚡️

[Thread]

#30DaysofThreads [13/30]
1. Why do you Procrastinate?

"You" are made up of two different individuals:
-The grown up
-The child (@joerogan calls this your inner bitch)

The grown up you is the rational/logical one.

He cares about your future and is very good at making plans to ensure a brighter.....
future for you.

Grown up you is more concerned about your future, even if it means making sacrifices today.

On the other hand, the child you is the impulsive one.

Unfortunately, he's the one who decides what you're going to do in the moment.
He thinks only about what's best for him in the Present.

He's not concerned about the future because he just wants to play.

Procrastination happens when the Child you gets what he wants, leaving Grown up you to feel the pain of stress and anxiety.
2. What is Procrastination?

Procrastination means not Starting the tasks/work Grown up you set out for you to do.

When we procrastinate, we feel a sense of guilt, shame and anxiety because we can hear the voice of our Grown up side yelling at us.
The funny thing is, once you Start doing the work, those negative feelings immediately Evaporate.

Why?

Because it's not doing the work that's causing those feelings.

It is the ANTICIPATION of the work.

You don't procrastinate over doing the work.....
you procrastinate STARTING the work.

The challenge is simply to convince the child you to START.

That's it.

Once you get the child you to get the ball rolling, momentum will take over and he will finish his homework.
3. How to Stop Procrastinating

99% of people never overcome procrastination because they rely on Willpower.

This may work once or twice, but it is not a reliable way of eliminating procrastination.

Using willpower to eliminate procrastination is like yelling at a child to
do his homework every night.

Here's some solutions that actually work

*Make it easy

Willpower doesn't work because people tend to overdo it.

"No more laziness. Today, I'm going to write 20,000 words, send out 100 cold emails, build 3 shopify stores and work out."
That's too intimidating.

Instead, start small.

Write 3 HIGH ROI tasks that move you towards your Big goal.

Prioritise them from 1-3.

Do task 1, take a 15 minute break, then do task 2.

After task 2 is done, take another break and do task 3.

When task 3 is done...
Do whatever the f*ck you want.

Here's the thing though..... The only thing you'll want to do after that is MORE WORK.

Why?

Because the momentum you'll get from doing the first three tasks will make you want to keep moving.

Human beings are creatures of ENERGY....
Once we start moving, we are likely to want to keep moving.
