The threats come in battalions. An enormous majority. A divided opposition. A national broadcaster operating under an existential warning. A Prime Minister already advertising a populist intent as “The People’s Government”.
Where will challenge come from? Not the House of Lords – which was served notice in the Conservative Manifesto that its role would be reviewed. And the only higher law that constrains a Government with a majority in Parliament is EU law – and leaving the EU means abandoning that.
We have a populist Government, with no one else to constrain it, which has shown a propensity to treat the law as an inconvenience, and which has issued multiple explicit challenges to the judiciary.
But the @GoodLawProject will continue its work: challenging the gift of public assets to Amazon; sweetheart tax deals with Uber; Government policies which leave the children of single parents in poverty; protecting interns and young graduates from exploitative employers.
@GoodLawProject And, most importantly, by tackling the existential crisis for humanity posed by climate change.
