@cliodiaspora Second, the proviso is that in 2017 I initiated proceedings in NL to establish that EU citizenship would continue as a matter of EU law post Brexit. The Judge held there was reason to think I might be right and referred the matter to the CJEU... theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
@cliodiaspora but on appeal the NL Court of Appeal pulled the reference because, until the Withdrawal Agreement was concluded, the question was premature. I plan to pick the matter up again with my legal advisers later this week.
@cliodiaspora Third, although it is understandable, imo @cliodiaspora's anger (the initiative is "insulting") is misplaced. A request coming from the UK would be likely to be met with a request for reciprocity. IMO it will assist, not detract from, the protection of EU citizens' rights here.
@cliodiaspora I will continue to do what I can to protect, as I have previously, the rights of EU citizens here. But the protection of the two groups - EU citizens here and UK citizens abroad - go hand in hand. What is good for one is good for the other - and vice versa. /ENDS
