- an exclusive movie trailer
premiered INSIDE the game
- a custom game scene w/
the Millennium Falcon
- a live interview w/ JJ Abrams
- PLAYABLE LIGHTSABERS
Quick thread + analysis:
Remember, this isn't about viewing fidelity. This is about showing @FortniteGame fans that @starwars appreciates them.
V funny, v entertaining, v smart for appealing to @FortniteGame fans. The most exclusive moments In-game, the better for both parties.
The scene itself? Awesome. And starting this way gave players time to jump in for the event, pre JJ interview + trailer.
Did the polls affect anything? No.
But players felt involved.
@FortniteGame players already got a trailer + JJ appearance, but their fav moment may have been what came next.
TIE fighters chased off the Falcon, leaving this chest. When players opened it, I laughed out loud at the chaos.
Wonder why @starwars would invest so heavily in @Fortnite Game?
As of March 2019, @FortniteGame has 250 million players.
It's a colossal, invested audience that loves to come together & can hugely life brands.
This was a trailer.
And interview.
And game scene.
And playable weapon.
One little exclusive isn't good enough anymore. Hit fans with as much value & opportunity to participate as possible.
You've gotta be able to immediately learn new distribution styles & master them. And now, Fortnite is one of them.
The lightsaber is beloved.
We all want a lightsaber.
So Star Wars + Fortnite
gave players lightsabers.
Now players are swinging around an insanely fun, branded advertisement every time they're in Fortnite.
