Nintendo just announced Switch Lite.
- made for handheld, no TV docking
- significantly lighter than Switch
- no detachable controllers or rumble
- $199 ($100 less than Switch)

Quick thread + analysis:
Wonder what the business case is for Nintendo to release this model.

- did handheld gamers not go Switch?
- is Switch being primarily used as a
handheld, but with complaints?
- is Switch not being used as a
handheld as much as expected?
- Was $300 too much for some?
Nintendo originally said they imagined Switch + 3DS living together, but have since admitted 3DS sales have dropped significantly.
Nintendo’s President said the 3DS is their “entry-level game system” just a few months ago - gotta believe the Switch Lite will serve that purpose now.
If Nintendo is aiming to bring in handheld gamers who haven’t converted, “Switch Lite” is kinda rough branding. It makes the system feel limited (which it is, but isn’t a message a consumer ever wants to hear) (unless it’s Bud Light, okay, I’m off topic)
Bet the Nov 2019 Pokémon games played a role. No one’s ever had to pay $300 for a console to play the primary games - Switch Lite makes sure that continues. They’ve also already announced a Pokémon edition Switch Lite.

Watch for Switch + Switch Lite sales to go bonkers in Nov.
