/ THREAD: Body Language Analysis No. 4416: Joe Borrow wins the Heisman — #Nonverbal #BodyLanguage #BodyLanguageExpert #Heisman #HeismanTrophy #JoeBurrow #JalenHurts #JustinFields #ChaseYoung
/ Earlier tonight the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner was named. To the surprise of few. Joe Burrow won college football's highest individual award.
/ The image above shows the top four candidates about 12 seconds prior to the announcement. Left to right in the above image are Joe Borrow, Justin Fields, Jalen Hurts, and Chase Young.
/ Note Justin Fields lips are rolled inward and being gently pinched between his teeth — configured in what is known as an "Inward Lip Roll" (ILR).
/ An inward lip roll is a very common manifestation of the psyche's attempt and suppressing the inward crescendo of emotion — as well as the overt outward expression on one's face.
/ Just after his name was called, Joe Burrow and Chase Young also displayed Inward Lip Rolls — while at the same time, Jalen Hurts displayed contempt.
/ As Burrow and Hurts Hug each other, Chase Young's expression changes. Note how his lips are spread horizontally and thinned out (not rolled inward). His jaw is also thrust forward (adrenaline surge). This configuration is highly indicative of Anger.
/ A moment later, as Chase Young sits down, he rapidly whips his dreadlocks backward. This is an alpha-upregulatory display. It's very much displaying the thought-emotion of, "Although for a moment I have been a bit out-alpha-ed, I am reasserting my dominance".
/ After getting congratulations and hugs from family members, coaches, and friends, as Joe Burrow displays a nose pinch. A nose pinch is another alpha-upregulatory behavior and is much more commonly seen displayed by men.
/ It's not that these alpha-upregulatory acts are displayed by individuals with beta personalities — on the contrary, they tend to be used by alpha individuals who are trying to become more alpha at a crucial and often vulnerable moment.
/ As he turns toward the stage and buttons his jacket, Joe Burrow takes a deep inhalation and through a tighten lips expels his breath. This nonverbal display is known as a Pufferfish.
/ The pufferfish dynamic has a calming effect — slowing down the heart rate and respiration while also lowering the blood pressure. It's very often displayed just prior to or immediately after a stressful act or decision.
/ As he ascends the stairs we see Joe Burrow display a Lateral Tongue Jut (his tongue jutting out and to one side, in this case, his left).
/ A lateral tongue jut is also an alpha-upregulator as well as indicating overlapping thought-emotions of enthusiasm and anticipated success.
/ Just before he picks up the Heisman Trophy, we see another Inward Lip Roll (again, trying to suppress strong emotions from growing both in the mind and on the face).
/ Joe Burrow faces the camera with a suppressed but sincere smile (Duchenne Smile).
