Whenever I use glue on a woodworking project, which is often, I get glue on my fingertips. Then, my iPhone won’t recognize my fingerprint and won’t let me into my phone. 1
So I turn off security so I can use my phone. But Google gets VERY unhappy that I’m not using security, so it won’t let me into my email. 2
It’s been about ten days since my last project and I was just about to reinstate security on my iPhone when, you guessed it, I just did a big glue-up and my fingertips are all munged up again. 3
This iPhone security stuff does not fill me with delight. 4

.@Sonos updates are evil for several reasons. 1) The current version starts inexplicably behaving badly until you realize it needs an update. 1
@Sonos 2) Then you can’t update it because you don’t have the latest version installed.
3) It has to update your base station and all of your Zones/Connects/Amps separately. 2
@Sonos 4) It won’t update on its own in the background. It waits until you want to use it, then forces you to stop everything to update.
5) It demands that you give it passwords to begin the update. 3

Still slogging through Foner’s tome on Reconstruction when I come to the Long Recession of 1873. Once again I ask myself, “Why does America tolerate an economic system that crashes horribly every 25 years or so?” 1
Reading on, Foner describes the resulting hard swing to the right in the wake of the recession. Politicians and contemporary pundits blame socialists, reconstruction advocates, and—whaddaya know—former slaves. 2
Then it hits me! Obvious as hell. Bankers and capitalists love recessions and economic crashes because they get to blame the left and people of color. "It’s the commies and the blacks!” they shout, and financially insecure low- & middle-class Americans take the bait every time. 3

2/14 He doesn't stop. He sets Twitter to private. Deletes a few tweets. Comes back again for more. He DMs people, looking for supporters in the community. He finds them, tries to start rehabbing his image. For some reason, it works. He lies, he manipulates, he convinces.
3/14 This is what predators do, this is what stalkers do, and they lie & manipulate, they gaslight. They tell people they would never do something so awful, they were "just kidding" or "it didn't happen the way the person described it." Once again, the onus is on the victim

I recently became aware of several generations of iPhone constantly beaming out infrared from behind what appears to be the speaker lattice area next to the front-facing (selfie) camera while running a variety of apps (and possibly while at rest, but still testing that part).
There have been attempts to "explain" this to me, by various twitter commenters, as nothing more than a proximity sensor for the purposes of dimming the screen when the phone is next to your ear during a phone call.
I have doubts about this being a good explanation due to me placing opaque tape over the source of this infrared beam, yet the screen not constantly dimming (which it should if that was correct). Motion detection via accelerometer possibly plays a role in call screen dimming.

iPhone models before iPhoneX are believed to be non-infrared emitting, right?
That detail has been stated as part of the reason FaceID is not compatible with models before the X.
I have in front of me an iPhone 7 which is emitting IR from the front-facing lense speck. I thought this was not a capability of that model.

The phone itself + mirror shows it in playback, due to the front-facing camera lacking an infrared filter (the back camera filters out IR)
#iPhone enthusiasts, is this common knowledge? (that models prior to X can and do emit infrared from front-facing selfie camera lense area). I thought the capability was introduced with the X.

First up; my favourite robot which keeps my home clean. The Roborock S55 uses SLAM technology with cameras & sensors to generate a model of the house. It cleans really well & it leaks even better as it doesn't use HTTPS to communicate. It misses its home and keeps calling back!
Next up; one of the cheapest smart cameras in the market. The Xiaomi XiaoFang WiFi camera does 1080p video and costs less than Rs. 1200. I have many around the house for security purposes. It is a great oxymoron as its a security device with no security.
