The dome is an integral part of Sultan Bello Hall. The hall was designed by Maxwell, Fry & Jane (a UK firm) with a capacity for 406 students. It was named after Muhammed Bello 1781-1837, chief builder of the Sokoto Caliphate.

Ife and Modakeke

According to the Treaty of 1886, Modakeke was to be removed from Ife soil, and rebuilt in a place between the Rivers Osun and Oba, and the Ibadans were to see that this was carried out.

That portion of the Treaty was galling to the Ibadans, the Modakekes simply would not hear of it, but the Ifes were jubilant, and were determined to see it carried out. Modakeke was a large town, and the immediate removal was simply impracticable.
In vain did they ask that a reconciliation be made between themselves and the Ifes so that they might remain on the spot dear to them, containing as it did the ashes of their fathers ; the present generation knew no other home.

The Action Group (AG) was a Nigerian political party established in Owo on March 21st, 1951.

It was dissolved on January 16th, 1966.

The announcement in Nigerian newspapers on 21 March 1951 of the birth of the Action Group took the country by storm. Those who later became covert and overt adversaries of the party heralded its debut in glowing terms.
The Daily Times, in an editorial comment headed ‘Awakening In The West’, hailed it as ‘first in the field with a definite plan for winning seats under the new Constitution.’ The paper described the objective of the Action Group as ‘admirable and deserving of support’.

Who Killed Ayinde Bakare

On October 1, 1972, Ayinde Bakare, the original king of Juju, had an afternoon engagement in Lagos and a night engagement in Ijebu Ode.

On account of that, he sent some members of his Meranda Band ahead to Ijebu Ode in the hope of joining them later in the day. He led the remaining members of the band to play at a wedding party at Isalegangan Street, Lagos.
He disappeared when the band was on recess and was later declared missing. After a fruitless search, the police decided to check on a body found in the Lagos lagoon shore near Bonny Camp on October 5, 1972. It was Ayinde Bakare’s.

#Thread (a very long one) Yesterday, I visited the new Englewood STEM High School. Remember the close 4 high schools and open 1 high school deal #MRE hand-picked BOE (not to be confused w/ #MLL unelected BOE) approved in 2018 against community wishes? Yes, that one!
2/ Driving up to the school I saw bleachers, a football field, a track, & then the modern structure that houses 400+ freshman students. Nice.
3/ Tho, I couldn’t help but wonder where all of the sophomores/juniors/seniors who live in Englewood attend school especially bc #CPS is proposing to close Hope & the ongoing battle to resource & support Harper properly.

Parliament’s reforms didn’t do it for them either. Abdul Mahdi resigning is not their demand though, they want the whole system gone. Parliament, the PM, his government, and most of all the political parties run by elites they say are corrupt and beholden to Iran/the U.S. 2/11

You know what I find really ironic & sobering about the wave of anti-Fulani bigotry sweeping the country? It’s not new. Only that when it happened, 50–60 years ago, the targets were not the Fulani,but instead the Igbo, suspected/ unfairly accused of an Igbonisation Agenda

This is Nigeria for you. Those who are ignorant or forgetful or disdainful of history rush to make pronouncements where even angels fear to tread. Those who respect history open themselves up to its sobering truth, the sense of measure and nuance that it leaves behind.
Maybe it feels comforting right now, to hold an entire ethnic group responsible for Nigeria’s security challenges. But to successfully do that you have to willfully blind yourself to the simple & obvious truth that no ethnic group in Nig. has ever held a monopoly on criminality.

2/ the startup is somewhat customer-facing, but mainly provides back office support for SMEs ... and, a lot of those SMEs will be sole-traders.

There are a LOT of competing solutions.

So, this founder has decided that his value-proposition is:

To be the LOW COST provider
3/ so, this founder is targeting the shittiest end (sole and smallest traders) of a shitty market, at the shittiest price point possible.

And, the product (so far) requires F2F sales.

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
