NEW: How the GOP became the Trump Party.

Fear, incentives and a stark choice with voters, stoked by Trump and his amen corner:

us or them?

A big part of the issue with Trump is that it is all personal, he demands loyalty to him — not on an agenda. He is the agenda.
We did not have space for this, but two episodes last week illustrate the Era of Trump:

First, @CongressmanJVD didn’t just promise his support to Trump in order to get cover for his switch

He sat in the Oval and vowed “undying support” before the cameras
Second, this week also illustrated the silence Trump demands.

He hurls a beyond-the-pale insult about John Dingell

And here’s what happened, via @pkcapitol >
Kevin “McCarthy — who, at Dingell’s funeral, sat in the front pew with Pelosi and other congressional leaders — declined to address Trump’s comments Thursday at a news conference, describing the Dingells as ‘very good individuals.’”
As @maggieNYT notes, the @club4growth epiphany is also a sign of these times: a fiscal conservative group that made its name backing primaries against GOP leaders concluded party activists weren't that into issue purity after all.

Activists just wanted candidates to back Trump
