@swati_gs Hello Ms Swathi, I would like share my experience of being a minority in a minority institute. I studied medicine in Mangaluru, Karnataka. It was a minority institute. In 2004/2005 I stayed in hostel. During holy month of certain community the mess was divided accordingly.
@swati_gs One day at evening dinner one of my Christian friend requested not to have veg food as he felt it was mixed with meat! I was shocked as I said it can't be! He was sure that it was meat and not anything else other than Beef! I had no words to describe my feeling!
@swati_gs Later he showed me the meat in vegetable curry! One of my orthodox friend had already had it and he ran to wash room and started to make himself sick. Later went to warden who behaved as if it's not a big deal! I was angry, tearful and frustrated! No seniors or mess rep came!
@swati_gs I was the only one who raised the voice! Later a friend from minority community came and said "What's the big deal if you have Beef, get some money and do pooja. Why are you making a big fuss of it". None from other community came and tried to address issue or console!
@swati_gs Later because I was the one who was asking answers , they started spreading rumours that I was about to commit suicide! Later for being a voice I was victimised for rest of my stay in medical school. I was humiliated by principal and didn't allow to be myself.
@swati_gs The institute used covert method of asking police to come at 03:00 hrs and arranged pre-planned witness. The entire case was closed! And no one got the justice. This incident will haunt me and the people who let down were my own community as they were scared to resist!
@swati_gs I am not trying to create a rift among people. I am explaining how so called majority in a minority institute becomes a worse minority! Imagine the helplessness when you are in professional course, and you are victimised for resistance! I am pleased to see things changing 🙏
@swati_gs Don't ask anyone to show sympathy ask them to stand in support to each other and then things will change! Reminds me of "Ek Anek" cartoon in Doordarshan. "Strength is in Unity"
