On the last #SundayMorning of 2019, I thought I'd take a look back at the most popular tweets and threads from this year.

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." -Socrates

What were we focused on in 2019?
(THREAD)
(2) Our most popular thread of 2019 explored why the resistance in America doesn't look more like the streets of Hong Kong and what that does and doesn't say about our country.

(3) Another popular thread in 2019 sought the answer to the continued lack of action on gun control and laid it squarely at the feet of a GOP controlled Senate.

(4) In 2019, we also invested energy in debunking some conservative propaganda, including the myth of after-birth abortion.

Not a thing, guys.
(5) Our focus was also squarely on the 2020 election and in vetting candidates that would represent our best shot at taking back the Senate and the Presidency.

(6) And of course, we continued to expose Trump's corruption & lean into shifting public opinion. In fact, 2019 marks the year Donald Trump was impeached.

And it's in no small part due to continued pressure from activists, journalists, and citizens.

(7) Those were the most popular #SundayMorning threads, but what were the issues that defined 2019?

I dug into my analytics to find out what captured conversation in our corner of the Twitterverse.

Democrat infighting, unfortunately, leads the pack.
(8) But we were also passionate about Generation Lockdown and our rage at being helpless to stop mass shootings.

In 2019 there were 41 mass killings, 33 of which were mass shootings. More than 210 people were killed. El Paso, Dayton.

(9) We also spent a lot of time trying to defend from attacks on women's reproductive rights. 2019 saw repeated attempts by GOP controlled states to rollback access to women's healthcare.

(10) And we continued to wonder about the children and migrants being imprisoned by our government for the crime of asking for asylum. We watched in horror as an unprecedented number of children seeking asylum died in US custody.

(11) While many were busy fighting injustice and attacks on the progress we'd cemented in the last few decades, Trump was busy leveraging that distraction to make money off the presidency and continue his legacy of corruption.

(12) America also faced a continued rise in hate crimes in 2019, fed by the nasty rhetoric of white supremacy spilling out of the White House.

The FBI reports 2019 saw hate crime violence hit a 16 year high, specifically against Latinos.

(13) In 2019, Trump also came for Chrissy Teigen and the Twitterverse was having none of that.

Props to our queen @chrissyteigen

(14) Trump also called for his own impeachment in October and I guess we only gave him what he asked for. Just in time for Christmas.

(15) And last but not least, we focused on the stunning GOP hypocrisy, specifically in the Senate. The pile of bills on Mitch McConnell's desk grows higher and deeper while Americans suffer.

(16) We've got a lot of work to do in 2020 and beyond, but it's gratifying to realize how very far we've come. And how many are committed to this fight not just today but for the next generation.

Breathe. Enjoy your holiday. We're gonna be busy in 2020.

As some of you have pointed out, not THAT Socrates.

The quote comes from a character named Socrates in a Millman book called “Way of the Peaceful Warrior.”
