Imagine that you're Rudy, and that you pride yourself on your "research," yet despite the fact that there have only been two impeachments prior to this one every statement you make about this one is untrue because you forgot to look up the *first* of the two prior impeachments
PS/ Andrew Johnson was perhaps our worst and most despicable president, but he wasn't *impeached* for that—he was *impeached* after Congress passed a wholly partisan law specifically designed to entrap him and it worked. The conduct Trump was impeached for was *infinitely* worse.
PS2/ Just so, the Clinton impeachment was the culmination of a seven-year, wholly partisan—actual—witch-hunt by a radical right-winger, Ken Starr, who failed to find *anything* on Clinton connected to his original charge and then stumbled through sheer luck onto Clinton's affair.
PS3/ IOW, the Trump impeachment *is* historic. This is the first time a president has been impeached for BETRAYING AMERICA, and the first time an article of impeachment has laid out—on its facts—a prima facie case of one of the two ENUMERATED crimes in our Constitution: BRIBERY.
PS4/ I don't think Democrats should run away, in any respect, from the conversation over how historic this impeachment is. But it's historic not for the reasons Giuliani says—his claims, even if true, would make the impeachment mundane—but what Giuliani *doesn't* (and won't) say.
PS5/ Our 2 prior impeachments were *desperately* partisan and occurred *because* the presidents' critics couldn't find crimes related to the presidents' conduct in office. Here, there were *so many* acts of bribery and obstruction Congress needed "umbrella" articles to hold them.
PS6/ Indeed, never before has a House committee working on impeachment so *carefully and thoroughly* laid out the elements of the crimes committed by a president, and never before have those crimes been *so central* to the president's most *solemn and dire* constitutional duties.
PS7/ Trump's impeachment is—in fact—the most *shocking* impeachment in U.S. history, but for precisely *none* of the reasons that he and his rabidly self-blinded supporters believe. Their superpower is not knowing history and not (oddly) have followed this impeachment closely.
