Last April the state AG's office first wrote a letter to Facebook about the (very popular!) page, noting its menacing videos & the hateful comments under posts, like: “We need to get rid of them like Hitler did.” But Facebook apparently did nothing. nj.gov/oag/newsreleas…
Now, anti-Semitic violence in Monsey, Jersey City and Brooklyn has been linked to that very same kind of overdevelopment, as if Jews brought the violence on themselves by their real estate practices. That's what a Jersey City school board member said: hudsoncountyview.com/after-richards…
Complaints were also similar to what I heard in Crown Heights when I reported on escalating violence there. Pastor Monrose told me the kind of talk he hears: "Those Jews—you know they come in and take up all the land...Another Jewman bought the building."wnyc.org/story/attacks-…
Rise Up Ocean County's anonymous operator depicted Orthodox Jews as an existential threat to a certain way of life. The operator of the page insisted that anti-Semitic comments were removed & this was not about religion. Even secular Jews posted on the page, expressing support.
The moderator of the page had also accused NJ Attorney General @GurbirGrewalNJ, who is Sikh, of complicity with the Jews & belonging to a "radical religion." This was in response to a discrimination complaint against Jews in Lakewood that Grewal's office settled:
