Crude TLDR:
Burke: Ppl are flawed. Institutions make us better. Let's preserve them.
Paine: Ppl are good. Institutions are flawed & oppress us. Let's redesign them.
I.e if we agreed on fundamental assumption of human nature, we'd come to similar conclusion. It's a tactical difference.
But I wonder if one root of our increasing conflict stems more from values than tactics
Right now, these are at odds. Promoting one seems to threaten the other. They both see themselves as hanging by a thread.
