It's fair to ask if John Bolton's sudden willingness to testify is linked to Trump's sudden aggressive policy against Iran, Bolton's obsession.

("Senator, you asked if I said a 'drug deal'? Never. I said 'You're on drugs if you support the IRAN Deal.'")
Especially b/c @AmbJohnBolton knows he can't trust Trump to follow through & not get cold feet. By announcing he'd testify, Bolton extends a timeframe to lock Trump in vs Iran. If he can delay his testimony a bit, he incentivizes Trump to keep up a hardline on Iran for longer.

But Bolton's views on Trump may've shifted a smidge since Thursday & the assassination of Bolton's despised mortal enemy.
And he can extort a hardline.

Wealth Tax's Constitutionality?
I've been skeptical, so I was re-reading Hylton v. U.S. (1796) upholding a carriage tax.
Justice Chase's dicta at 3 U.S. 175 is strong evidence in favor of its constitutionality, and I think it has been overlooked in the public debate.

2/ Chase:
"I am inclined to think, but of this I do not give a judicial opinion, that the direct taxes contemplated by the Constitution, are only two, to wit, a capitation, or poll tax, simply, without regard to property, profession, or any other circumstance; & a tax on LAND..."
3/ Chase, continued:
"I doubt whether a tax, by a general assessment of personal property, within the United States, is included within the term direct tax."

Thus Chase thought a wealth tax would not run afoul of the direct tax/apportionment rule in Art. I, Sec 9, cl 4.

Now that it's clear there was no "imminent" threat or "immanent" threat, Trump's new legal argument is that the US took Soleimani by "eminent" domain?

@atrupar @joshchafetz Trump deleted his tweet. I guess an advisor's correction was imminent. (And Trump hadn't read any briefing on "imminence.")
But his "corrected" tweet here is classic:
"The answer to both is a strong YES."
Both?
He means it was both imminent and not imminent?
