This is a rare disorder (except for religious cult members). Individuals with Shared Delusional Disorder learn a delusion from another delusional per son w/whom they are in a close relationship. 7/x

The person "teaching" the delusion usually has Schizophrenia, Delusional Disorder, or Mood Disorder with Psychotic Features. Usually the "teacher" of the delusion is dominant in the relationship and gradually imposes the delusion on the more passive "student".

And here's the criteria:
"The exact cause of shared psychotic disorder is still unknown. However, certain risk factors associated with it include:
A) Length of a relationship: Numerous studies highlight the role of the long relationship duration as an 15/x

essential factor for developing this condition. It is crucial to understand that the attachment with the primary case plays a key role in adopting the delusion.

B)Nature of the relationship: The majority of cases reported were among family members. The commonest 16/x

relationship was between married or common-law couples and the second most common group was between sisters.

C) Social Isolation: Most cases reported poor interaction with society. An individual who is confused and perplexed can undergo influence under frightening 17/x

conditions in the absence of social comparison. This information received by the secondary individual is in harmony with what the primary individual felt. The conviction to certain ideas will eventually prevail as the only solution to maintain a mutual relationship.
