I've travelled the world with @Telegraph - SAsia, China, USA and recently all over the EU and have loved every single day of it. /2

@Telegraph @FT The last few years on #Brexit have been astonishing - and my inestimable editor @chrisevans1 has backed me to the hilt, given me space and resources to work and - most importantly - printed the output. He and the @Telegraph don't get enough credit for running a broad church /3

The PM has a massive majority (a thing of the past we thought) and has won it by hitching his wagon to a hard #brexit.

It remains to be seen how that plays out in practice, but one thing is sure.../6

Johnson was elected by a fundamentally different electorate than David Cameron - that alone will would have bought profound changes, but cross fertilise this with a hard Brexit and the UK will change /8

To be clear, I'll bring as little baggage to the job as possible.

As with my report of #Brexit these three or four years, I'll do my best to ferret out and analyse what is actually happening, rather than what our politicians would have us believe is happening. /9

That, I realise is a statement of the obvious for any journalist, but we live in difficult times, where fact-based conversations about our future are lost in tribal warfare - remainers and Brexiteers, north and south, Scots and English, boomers and Gen-Z, owners and renters/10

If #brexit - and the political fallout from #Brexit tells us anything - it's that all is not well with the UK, and I intend to spend a chunk of time working with new colleagues outside London looking and listening how all this politics and policy actually LANDS. /11

These are exciting times and, sad as I am to leave @Telegraph, the chance to chronicle them with @ft is something I couldn't pass up. Time for a fresh challenge, which I'll start in the Spring. 12/ENDS
