THREAD The impeachment trial press restrictions announced today represent an unprecedented assault on the First Amendment and the people’s right to know. The only person who stands to be damaged by allowing a free and open press to cover these proceedings is Donald Trump.
This is a clear and corrupt attempt by the Republican majority to hide the proceedings and the evidence that may come out in the process, from the American people. For too long, Senate Majority Leader McConnell and Republicans in the senate have put protecting a crooked
president above honoring their oaths of office. Today they made clear their disdain for both the Bill of Rights and the American people themselves in their efforts to defend this unethical, dishonorable president.
