After this new #dnd #UnearthedArcana, specifically the warlock noble genie, here's an updated opinion thread on bringing "Arabic flavor" into your games

Feel free to ask me on any point to elaborate more 😊
In Arabic culture, magic is usually attributed to djinn, especially to be believed as illusion.
I'm trying to think of simple ways with minimum changes to what is currently officially available in 5e to bring this in a way that feels very Arab...
... I'd add a fighting style for fighters, Paladins, and Rangers to be able to cast Vicious Mockery as a bonus action once per turn if their attack hits, cause saying some poetic diss after nailing an attack is such a perfect thing to do!
Barbarian
The heart of the desert is boiled into your very soul, your rage taps into that bringing intense strength to unleash. This works very well with the berserker. Another way is the ancestral guardian, taking into the tribal pride Arabs carry.
The zealot works well if...
... Your Barbarian took that tribal arrogance into a holy defiance of death. I feel overplaying the Arab tribal pride & recklessness works extremely well with barbarians
Bard
poetry and prose has some magic in it, keep in mind that Arab culture has intense pride in their linguistic prowess
A talented poet might attract the interest of a djinn, adding some magic to his poems, I think a reskin of glamour would be best...
... Valor works well if you want to play a fighter with intense magic in their poetry & prose.
Cleric
Light & knowledge are great domains, there's a reverence in enlightenment from knowledge or simply holy light, grave & life can be reflected in the desolate nature of the desert and also that life can find its way no matter the hardships.
Arabs chaotic harsh nature....
... Goes against the order domain, which makes it perfect AGAINST them, an enemy or foreign religion rather than friendly. War in the other hand would be embraced in the warring tribes. Tempest can be reskinned to sand storms & extreme desert climate rather than rain & thunder.
Druid
There are stories of people turning into hyenas at times of famine, and the natural "medicine" druids can draw from nature is still practiced till this day. Land (desert) and moon circles work great, and you can reskin the dream to be based on djinn Realms.
Fighter
Similar to the barbarian, you'd tap heavily into the tribal pride, honor and chivalry are well suited for the discipline required to become a battle Master or a cavalier. Each tripe should also have their own champion. An eldritch knight is someone who...
... Learned to add djinn magic into his fighting style, but it very unlikely to be a tribal man. An outcast might take this path rather than a popular tribe member, as arcane is frowned upon.
Monk
Honestly, this is the hardest one. Hand to hand fighting never really picked up in Arab romance
You could attempt to play the way of the elements, being taught by sentient elementals (djinn 😜), or tapping into the desert powers through the sun soul.
Paladin
Ah Paladin, with such intensity in our culture for honor and keeping one's promise, Paladins play so well in our culture. Tip: make your oath into a poem!
Whether whatever the oath, you'll find a great narrative in our culture, even oathbreaker!
Ranger
These fighters are more in tune with the nature around them rather than the weapons they carry. Finding joy in traveling and discovering, or perhaps protecting precious & holy regions. Much like the Paladin, all ranger subclasses work so well in Arab culture.
Rogue
Does the fact that Assassin originally from Arabic "hashaasheen" helps?
Swashbuckling is a great choice for a band of raiders, master mind would be great for a political campaign in the court of the sultan
Sorcerer
Not having dragons in our culture makes it difficult to bring the draconic bloodline, but a simple reskin can bring it under the elemental bloodlines of djinn
Storm can be reflavored much like the cleric storm domain, while the shadow is an ominous touch of devils
Warlock
Celestial, fiend, and GOO fit very well here. An undead could offer power in exchange for help in freedom from a tomb. Hexblade is based on an enchanted ancient relic found in a long lost dungeon. Also, Noble Genie 😍
Wizard
With magic being so heavily influenced by djinn, I would assume that wizards would travel the planes in hope of finding a powerful djinn willing to teach them their ways. Perhaps their arcane focus is a shard from the elemental plane their mentor is from.
