Jordan, appreciate & respect the thread. The trust hurdle with it and Google is that it fails to recognize Google is the largest opaque tracker by far and fails to recognize in most cases it’s not a 1st party and own tracking should be stopped. See CMA study last month./1
I can’t even begin to explain the hypocrisy of this when IAB and its adtech lobby very publicly marched out of w3c’s ultimately successful efforts to define “tracking” and discredit w3c at every opportunity. Respect for w3c role would have avoided much. /2
My favorite was a top lobbyist saying, “w3c? What have they ever done?” My answer was, “um, the web...” We do need progress as you mention but it’s going to require much more attention on the biggest trackers (google/Facebook) despite political fallout. /end enjoy the holiday.
