When I saw the date of the State of the Union, I said to my wife, "there's no way in hell McConnell lets impeachment be still going by then." That was the moment I knew that Nancy Pelosi had to hold the articles at least 10 days longer, and that Mitch "won" when she didn't do so.
Essentially, Democrats delivered the articles to Mitch at *exactly* the point when he could develop a trial schedule that would appeal to even his moderate members—as they don't want this commingling with the State of the Union and now Mitch has a trial schedule that avoids that.
And now we've got Santorum on CNN saying "we have to get it in before the State of the Union" like it's—I don't know—a rule or something, which is basically a line of bull the Democrats inadvertently fed the GOP when they handed over the articles too early. This is all silliness.
Watch Susan Collins and other GOP "moderates" vote against witnesses partly under the justification that "we have to get this done by the State of the Union," again like *that's a thing* when it totally, 100% is not. Does no one in the GOP see that America is being shat on, here?
The only way to fix this, now, is to announce (a) an impeachment inquiry into Mike Pence, *and* (b) an impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump over the Syria withdrawal (a war crime) and the Iran assassination (a war crime) on the eve of this suddenly inviolable State of the Union.
To be clear, these are *justified* impeachment inquiries—one could argue Ukraine is the worst conduct we've ever seen a POTUS get impeached for *and* that Trump's conduct in Syria and Iran was *more* criminal. But Democrats need to show we're on *America's* schedule, not Trump's.
