As the country braces for the impeachment of a criminal president and a pivotal election, a show of force by armored, rifle-toting militias is a signal to Americans that unless white supremacists get what they want there's a real possibility of bloodshed.

We have to be honest about what yesterday's action in Virginia was: a message. That state, like the rest of the country, is changing. By marching and brandishing their weapons, militias dedicated to power through force tried to intimidate lawmakers and the American people.
Those militias are fueled by white supremacy and aren't patriotic. They're dedicated exclusively to maintaining power at any cost. That's fascism by its very definition. They either want power over everyone or they'll take literally everything down. We have to recognize that.
It's not a coincidence this is happening as the impeachment trial begins and it's not a coincidence that Trump sent them a message that he supported them. This is how these people work and they are dedicated to mutual encouragement and empowerment. That's the state of things.
These militias have killed and they're gaining in strength and number and boldness. They're recruiting and they're fixated on maintaining Trump's power and their own growth. Just because the media doesn't want to talk about this, doesn't mean it isn't happening.
Because they are white and because they drape themselves in faux-patriotism, most people don't want to discuss militias and separatists as a coalescing threat. But they're murderous and incredibly violent. As Trump becomes more imperiled, we have to understand that.
Make no mistake, the groups marching on Richmond yesterday were sending a message loud and clear. They'll have their way or there will be hell to pay. Those are the facts of the situation and we'd better start paying attention to what's happening before it's too late.
