Genaro Garcia Luna, the former Mexican police & security official accused of taking millions in bribes from the Sinaloa cartel, has been cut off from the Mexican financial system, his lawyer just said in court in Brooklyn. GGL's companies & family also cut off from Mexican banks.
GGL is being held under some kind of unusual security measures in the Brooklyn federal jail, his lawyers, Cesar de Castro, said. GGL was in solitary in Brooklyn as recently as nine days ago. Another hearing has been scheduled for April 2.
At today's hearing prosecutors repeated what they said in a filing late last week: that they have tons of evidence against GGL including finance docs, info from electronic devices and classified material. GGL was for many years Mexico's point man w/US law enforcement in Mexico.
GGL is still considering filing a request for bail but it hasn't happened yet.
