My family lives in rural America & voted for Trump in ‘16. As lifelong R’s they’re looking at Dems for 2020. Results:

@ewarren: Yes
@amyklobuchar: Yes
@JoeBiden: Maybe
@AndrewYang: Maybe
@PeteButtigieg: No*
@BernieSanders: No*

*Would vote Trump again
**Please don’t hate my fam
Explanations on my fam’s candidate choices:

@ewarren: Grew up in rural America = trust. Worked hard to beat odds, also trust she is for every day Americans. R before D so they feel kinship that it’s OK to change minds, & her economic message. They like her strong work ethic.
For @amyklobuchar: Another rural background, they really like this. Smart, level-headed, focused on middle class. They like that she’s not “flashy” & doesn’t use “buzz words” like others, focused on the work. They respect her for this & feel at the global stage it’s effective.
For @JoeBiden they aren’t sold. Feels too status quo Dem, he’s a little “too old” & “out of touch”, but they’d probably vote for him even though they don’t really like him.
For @AndrewYang they were interested in his message until he did the stunt of giving money from his campaign. Too “showboat”. Too inexperienced. But they like that he doesn’t demonize them as Republicans.
For @PeteButtigieg they said he’s just too young & also they didn’t feel he’s as authentic, more a career politician type in the making. “Too polished“. FYI: His being gay didn’t even come up (nor did gender for the women or race for Yang).
For @BernieSanders they think he’s “crazy grandpa”. Feel he’s inauthentic because he claims to be an outsider but has been in politics for decades. Also didn’t like that he hasn’t been effective enough in Congress. “Shows poor work ethic” & ineffective leadership style.
