As always, British media like @MailOnline, @thetimes and @Telegraph blew Todd’s story out of proportion. But, they failed to mention that Todd has been bullying trans people on social media and numerous complaints against her, submitted by Oxford students. oxfordstudent.com/2019/04/29/oxf…
At @MDI_UK, we believe in shifting the media narrative over getting involved in vitriolic debates. Owl Fisher explains “positive media coverage, like seeing Paris Lees in Vogue or BBC 2’s Boy Meets Girl, has a positive effect on trans people.” independent.co.uk/voices/transge…
We need to actively push for inclusion of lived trans experiences in UK media. @StopFundingHate works to achieve this by lobbying advertisers to boycott anti-trans media. As consumers, we vote with our pockets. Which media do you want to support? independent.co.uk/voices/transge…
Other strategies include everything from supporting a protest to writing to your local MP/newspaper editor and lobbying IPSO. Charities working with trans people whose work the UK media could afford to amplify include: @Mermaids_Gender, @stonewalluk, & @GIRESUK
