If John Bolton does want to talk, there are only three possible outcomes:

1) Senate lets him testify

2) House has him testify

3) He goes on Face The Nation and gives de facto testimony

There is no scenario in which Trump and the GOP Senate just magically silence Bolton.
Trump and his lawyers can stomp their feet all they want, but realistically there’s no legal maneuver to put duct tape over Bolton’s mouth.

Trump knows this too. It’s why he didn’t bother to try legal action to prevent people like Yovanovitch etc from testifying.
Different story for someone like Don McGahn, who clearly didn’t want to testify, and is dragging out the court battle himself. But for someone like Bolton who wants to speak, Trump doesn’t have a magic wand.

One more time for the people in the back:

Trump absolutely had to find a way to use this trial to boost his approval rating, because his 2020 chances right now are close to zero.

If Trump is acquitted but his approval rating stays the same or goes down, then he lost the trial.
If Trump is acquitted and your response is whining, crying, and “now he’s gonna magically win in 2020” fatalism, you’re the entire problem.

The only thing Trump has left going for him is your fatalism. Get over it, recognize this trial as a win for us, and get back to resisting!
Trump’s 2020 odds will not improve because an acquittal will “fire up his base.” They’re already voting for him anyway.

Trump will not be “emboldened” by an acquittal. He’ll just keep doing the same corrupt antics he’s always done. None of it has helped his 2020 odds one bit.

The biggest threat to America isn't Trump or his base. It's these diseased fatalists within the Resistance who can't stop yelling "He's gonna get away with it all" at the rest of us. Seriously, fuck these people. They should be locked in a dungeon until after the election.

If a soldier began yelling "we're gonna lose" at his fellow soldiers in the midst of battle, they'd incapacitate him out of necessity.

The Resistance has worked too hard to be taken down from within by these fatalists. When you encounter them, tell them to shut the fuck up.
