This is the tram line 2 in Zurich, Switzerland. Let's focus only on the part from Bachmattstrasse (betw. Farbhof & Lindenplatz) to Bürkliplatz for now.

The part resembles a bike route in the "Velorouten-Initiative". It is not exactly following the rails, but it is pretty close.
So, let's first compare bike route 2 to tram route 2.
If I am at Bachmattstrasse at 12:18, I will be at Bürkliplatz at 12:43.

Now I did the same with a bike and I arrived at 12:41 with pretty much the same (ideal) travel time of the tram.
I did the route twice in both directions.
My learnings:
- Nice start at Robert-Seidel-Hof, feels safe (3)
- Baslerstr.: too many cars
- Bullingerstr.: great, even with cars
- Kanzleistr.: A love supreme
- Bezirksgebäude: it is also a prison, but why can't we bike through (4)
After that it gets confusing. The official bike route (Veloroute) goes to Bäckerstr. and then follows Talstr. and finally the Bahnhofstr. till Bürkliplatz. This is also what @openstreetmap and @ProjectOSRM tell me to do.
But as a city biker I avoid to take Talstr. for now.
@openstreetmap @ProjectOSRM So when coming from Altstetten, I went first to Stauffacherstr., Selnau, Schanzengraben (amazing and protected!), a short bit of Börsenstr, and then Bahnhofstr. up to Bürkliplatz.
@openstreetmap @ProjectOSRM When going back to Altstetten I avoided Bahnhofstr. and Börsenstr. (I don't like mixing with tram and cars, if I can avoid it).
So I used:
- Claridenstr ✅
- Bleicherweg ✅
- Schanzengraben ✅
- Brandschenkestr 👎
- Talacker👎
- Sihlstr. + -brücke👎
- Müllerstr ✅
- Bäckerstr ✅
@openstreetmap @ProjectOSRM Curious how and when the @stadtzuerich transforms the "Innenstadtquerende Veloroute Löwenstrasse–Talstrasse"?

stadt-zuerich.ch/ted/de/index/s…:
"Die durchgehende Verbindung zwischen See und Hauptbahnhof macht das Velofahren in der Innenstadt sicherer und komfortabler."
@openstreetmap @ProjectOSRM @stadtzuerich For now from Bezirksgebäude to Bürkliplatz it is a big mess and extremly bike unfriendly.

As a cyclist, the best now is probably:
- Stauffacherstrasse
- Selnau
- Schanzengraben
- Glärnisch- together with Claridenstrasse
- Cross the street and arrive at Bürkliplatz
@openstreetmap @ProjectOSRM @stadtzuerich This change is also perceptible in the speed of the bike trip. Speed drops by 10 km/h at Schanzengraben because of pedestrians. But it slowed down before (after crossing Langstr.) and it never recovers after, not at Börsenstr. nor at Bahnhofstr.
@openstreetmap @ProjectOSRM @stadtzuerich @ParisEnSelle @LCyclable @Anne_Hidalgo @C_Najdovski Paris wants to spend € 26 per inhabitant per year for "plan vélo".

For Zurich that would mean CHF 11'962'600 every year, which is roughly 100 times less than the estimated total cost for the #rosengartentunnel.

@openstreetmap @ProjectOSRM @stadtzuerich @ParisEnSelle @LCyclable @Anne_Hidalgo @C_Najdovski Today I did the "Velo 2", equivalent to "Tram 2", from Schlieren-Geissweid to Zürich-Tiefenbrunnen.

The tree debris on the bike lane from Schlieren to Farbhof was a bit annoying, but otherwise this part is superfast (see speed). From Stauffacher to Bürkliplatz remains a problem.
