Intellect and erudition:
These things get a bad name. Why? There are people who learn so they can belittle others. True intellect and erudition is used in the following ways:
1) Gleaming insights and connecting dots others miss.
2) Detecting bullshit and bullshit artists.
3) Accumulating interesting perspectives so when U are in conversation with others, you can take them places they haven’t thought of.

That’s basically it. Learn so you can be of higher quality service to others in conversation. Elevate their mood by emotionally conveying ideas
Never use your knowledge to make someone feel small. If you truly own your knowledge, people should walk away feeling bigger because they now know more than they did before. Treat people with empathy not logic. 🤘

When you do business, you are interacting with 3 things.
1) Time
2) Money
3) Energy
How so? If you run side hustle you choose to work instead of watching TV. You spend time and energy when everyone is tired and ready to give up, you try one more solution.
So here's the payoff for those of you paying attention and learning little things off me. People express these 3 variables emotionally. They rarely express it logically. That's why the key is to empathize with your client's point of view.
When I engage in business with someone, I always want one emotional outcome from them. I want them to think of me as their very best partner to deal with. I don't have to be the biggest, the most expensive, the cheapest. I want to be the one they call when they are stuck.

Every step of the way leave a backdoor open so the person you are negotiating with can back away. Why? Subconsciously they will trust you and not know why. But you know why now. Give people time and space because you’re busy creating a bigger pie while...
they may fear they need to take as many slices as they can from the current small pie. Empower them, show them what their options are. Light the path, remind them you are a candle and sharing your light doesn’t diminish your value at all.
Let them feel like you respect their dignity enough to not swindle them. I have a client that I’ve been working on for 2 weeks with @ember_sadat. We’ve run into every imaginable hurdle. For every update, I give the client room to back away. Add humour wherever possible.

The mental equivalent of fight/flight is submit/subvert. Your ability to be observant is what gives you the edge to stay calm in the face of chaos. When someone is trying to manipulate you emotionally they are creating chaos. Learn to subvert or you’ll submit.
Your world view is typically balanced and on. Then you hear someone praise something or you see an ad for something. That process is someone exposing your mental circuitry. We are all wired to noticed something new, strange, exciting. For survival purposes of course.
To repurpose those instincts for profit is the job of sales. If you recall @rorysutherland ’s book Alchemy, a flower is just weed with a marketing budget. If only have read access to those instincts you will be a consumer who is at the mercy of the latter group.

I turned 50 today which is surreal. I feel dumb sharing these words but here are some sappy thoughts.
If you ever have a nice thought about someone, tell them. Whether it’s at work or in life, everyone needs to hear nice thoughts.
Try to listen very deeply to what makes you happy. Not the exterior signifiers of happiness, but the true silly stupid emotion. Let yourself have as much of that as you can.

One of the things that has allowed me to be successful in life is my ability to view things from a truly objective position. This does NOT mean that I look at things from both sides, it means that I have the ability to remove emotional bias and see things for what they truly are.
If more people would learn how to do this, we would not have the great divide that we do among Americans. People have become so entrenched in their sphere of belief that if you do not agree with them, they want to silence/destroy you.
3) One of the main problems is, as a society, we do not personally communicate with other people very much anymore. We are behind a keyboard for 95% of our communication with people outside of our families, and we have forgotten how to talk TO people instead of AT them.
